This weekend, Teatru Astra showcases the highlight of its artistic calendar, with two performances of Verdi's grand opera Aida on Thursday 27th and Saturday 29th October. This will be the third time that Astra will be producing this opera, the first time being in 1988. A luxury cast has been selected to sing the main roles, namely, Silva dalla Benetta in the title role, Antonino Interisano as Radames, Sanya Anastasia as Amneris, Devid Cecconi as Amonasro, Carlo Colombara as Ramfis, Petri Lindroos as the King, and Georgina Stalbow as the High Priestess. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be under the direction of Astra's Musical Director, Joseph Vella, and the artistic direction is in the hands of Enrico Stinchelli. To complement the performances of Aida, opera historian Dr Abraham Borg will give a lecture on Verdi's masterpiece on Saturday 29th at 10am. The opera is supported by the Gozo Cultural Support Programme.

Teatru Astra is also presenting a pianoforte performance by young, talented Francis James Camilleri on Friday 28th. The concert, which will consist of works by Mozart, Schubert, Debussy, Rachmaninov, and Chopin, will be held at the Aula Mgr G. Farrugia, St George's Basilica, will start at 2000hrs.
